On Thursday, June 14, commencing at 6:00 for around 15 minutes, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda received a courtesy call from Mr. Htay Oo, General Secretary, Union Solidarity and Development Party, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Prime Minister Noda expressed gratitude for General Secretary Htay Oo's many years of contribution to developing Japan-Myanmar relations, and said Japan will implement measures to support the Government of Myanmar's initiatives toward democratization, national reconciliation and economic reform, and he is confident that Myanmar's reform efforts will continue.
- In response, General Secretary Htay Oo expressed his thanks for support from Japan, and said Myanmar will continue with its reform efforts under the leadership of President Thein Sein.
- In addition, Prime Minister Noda explained that Japan is moving ahead with preparations to extend support of approximately 1.6 billion yen for emergency responses to the current power crisis in Myanmar.
