On Monday, June 11, Mr. Yoshihiko NODA, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call by Mr. Sergey Evgenievich NARYSHKIN, Chair, State Duma of Russia, who was visiting Japan upon the invitation by Mr. Takahiro YOKOMICHI, Speaker of the House of Representatives, from 5:30 pm for approximately 15 minutes. An overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Mr. Naryshkin conveyed greetings from Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovich PUTIN, President of the Russian Federation, and expressed his expectation that the Japan-Russia Summit Meeting to be held on the occasion of the G20 Summit would give impetus to the development of cooperation in every field of Japan-Russia relations.
- Moreover, Mr. Naryshkin introduced the fact that he had stressed the importance of enhancing inter-parliamentary and cultural exchanges between Japan and Russia in his meetings with the concerned members of the Government and the National Diet of Japan held on the occasion of his current visit, and pointed out that development of cooperation in a wide range of areas would create a positive atmosphere for the solution of the peace treaty issue.
- Prime Minister Noda appreciated the roles played by Mr. Naryshkin in inter-parliamentary and cultural exchanges between Japan and Russia and stated that he looked forward to the meeting with President Putin on the occasion of the G20 Summit.
