Japan-Kosovo Summit Meeting (Overview)

On Friday, June 8, from 11:30 am for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Yoshihiko Noda, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Hashim Thaci, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, who was visiting Japan. An overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Prime Minister Noda welcomed the first visit of the Republic of Kosovo's Prime Minister to Japan, and expressed thanks for the support Japan received from Kosovo at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Additionally, Prime Minister Noda stated that Japan would consider extending support in areas such as personnel training.
- Prime Minister Thaci expressed his condolences to the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and his gratitude for support from Japan, and also expressed his gratitude for Japan's early recognition of Kosovo as a state following Kosovo's independence.
- Prime Minister Thaci also stated that Kosovo aims at joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU), and is trying to build friendly relations with its neighboring countries. Prime Minister Thaci then stated that there are stable investment conditions in Kosovo, and that he looks forward to investments from Japan.
- Prime Minister Noda stated that Japan supported the reforms carried out by the Government of Kosovo, and said that the Government of Japan would like to continue its engagement for the stabilization and development of the West Balkan region. Prime Minister Noda also stated that he hoped the visit to Japan by Prime Minister Thaci would serve as a catalyst for investment from Japan.
