[Provisional Translation]

On Wednesday, May 30, Mr. Osamu Fujimura, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from H. E. Mr. Fernando Damata Pimentel, Minister of Development, Industry, and Trade of Federative Republic of Brazil, at 10 a.m. for approximately 25 minutes. An overview of the meeting is as follows:

1. At the beginning, Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura mentioned telephone talks between Mr. Yoshihiko Noda, the Prime Minister of Japan, and Ms. Dilma Vana Rousseff, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, held prior to the courtesy visit, and stated that he would like to make efforts to further strengthen the Japan-Brazil relations. Minister Pimentel stated that he would like to strengthen bilateral relations with the help of Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura, who has an exceptional acquaintance to Brazil.
   
   
2. Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura expressed his expectation that the Rio+20 Conference (United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development) scheduled in June will be successfully held by Brazil's initiative. Moreover, Minister Pimentel stated his expectations, such as the promotion of the export of Brazilian products, the transfer of technology from Japan, and the increase in the number of students dispatched from Brazil to Japan. In response, Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura stated that, as Brazil's presence and trust are increasing, the Government of Japan would like to appropriately cooperate on various issues between the two countries.
   
   
3. Finally, Minister Pimentel stated that, Ms. Rousseff's administration regards Japan as Brazil's strategic partner in Asia, because of the long history of friendly relations between Brazil and Japan, trust in and respect for Japan obtained through the existence of a community of Japanese descents in Brazil, and Japan's high level of technology and economic strength.
