On Thursday, April 19, Mr. Yoshihiko Noda, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Victor Baloga, Minister of Emergencies of Ukraine, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Post-nuclear accident cooperation
The Prime Minister welcomed Minister Baloga's first visit to Japan and the signing of the bilateral agreement concerning aftermath response to accidents at nuclear power stations on Wednesday, April 18. Minister Baloga thanked Japan for the cooperation it had extended after the Chernobyl nuclear power station accident, and conveyed that Ukraine would spare no effort to advance cooperation under this agreement.

Prime Minister Noda mentioned the adoption of a commemorative resolution at the plenary session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, April 17, as this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ukraine. He expressed his intention to strengthen bilateral relations going forward in a broader range of areas. Minister Baloga said he has been instructed from the President of Ukraine to convey his respects to Prime Minister Noda and requested Prime Minister Noda to visit Ukraine whenever feasible.
