Committee on the National Space Policy
Tuesday, July 31, 2012
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda attended the 1st meeting of the Committee on the National Space Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.
Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "Space is a frontier for all humankind.
Strategic development and utilization of space is important also from the perspective of Japan's economic growth or strengthening its international competitiveness, and is also a focus in the Strategy for Rebirth of Japan.
I feel delighted to see this committee today being established according to the recent revision of the act, which streamlined the system to promote the development and use of space as a national strategy, since I have also been engaged in drafting the Basic Space Law from before.
I would like to comprehensively and systematically promote the space policy in a well-balanced manner from the perspective of foreign affairs and security, industrial promotion, and science and technology.
I would like to sincerely ask the committee members for a free and vigorous discussion without being obliged to follow precedents, to present the direction of the policy.
The government will promote the space policy as a national strategy, based on the discussion at this committee."
