Council for the Realization of the Revival of the Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery Industries
Thursday, October 20, 2011
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held the seventh meeting of the Council for the Realization of the Revival of the Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery Industries at the Prime Minister's Office.
Discussion took place on the Basic Policy and Action Plan for the Revival of the Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishery Industries in Japan (Draft).
Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "I believe the significance of this Council lies in the promotion of communication between the business circle and those working in the agricultural industry. I would like to see more frequent exchange of opinions between the two on various occasions besides this meeting.
I believe what is important now is the collaboration between agriculture and business. The question is not whether we can realize both high-level economic partnerships with other countries and revitalization of agriculture as the foundation of the nation. We must realize both. This is essential. I want to have a debate based on that assumption.
I will convene a meeting of the headquarters for revitalization of the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries on October 25 gathering all Cabinet members, and finalize the draft you have submitted today. On that basis, I would like to steadily move forward the efforts clearly aimed at promoting the unique aspects of Japanese food culture and creating a new structure to encourage those involved in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries to take initiatives in reviving their industries with a sense of assurance."
