India-Japan Global Partnership Summit 2011 Exchange Dinner
Tuesday, September 6, 2011
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda attended the India-Japan Global Partnership Summit 2011 held at a hotel in Tokyo.
In commemoration of the decade-long Japan-India Global Partnership, which was concluded in 2000 between Mr. Yoshiro Mori, former Prime Minister of Japan, and Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India, the India-Japan Global Partnership Summit 2011 was held with the aim of expanding, reinforcing and realizing stronger frameworks for bilateral cooperation, including through the conclusion of a comprehensive economic partnership agreement between Japan and India.
The Prime Minister said in his address at the exchange dinner, "I would like to once again express my appreciation for the very heartfelt and warm support we have received from all sectors of India, including the dispatch of a rescue team and provision of supplies, in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake that hit Japan on March 11. I know that former Prime Minister Naoto Kan received words of sympathy directly from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The kizuna ("bonds of friendship") between the two countries have been once again reaffirmed. I believe these kizuna must be further strengthened and further enhanced moving forward.
Japan and India share the universal values of democracy, rule of law, and market economy. With the countries being two major democratic nations in Asia, Japan is resolved to bolster our cooperative relations based on the Strategic and Global Partnership established in 2006.
In the economic realm too, it is in the interest of the two countries to have a win-win relationship. I believe this is epitomized by the Japan-India comprehensive economic partnership agreement, which entered into force in August of this year. In addition to the more than 700 Japanese companies which have already expanded their businesses to India, many companies identify India as a promising investment destination. I expect further increases in trade and investment between our two countries.
Japan is also eager to contribute to the development of infrastructure which supports the further advancement of the fast-growing country of India. In particular, I hope that support through official development assistance (ODA) loans for the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) project will lead to fruitful outcomes.
Next year is the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India. I look forward to further strengthening the two countries' kizuna founded on our firm bonds of friendship that were forged by our predecessors."
