Prime Minister Naoto Kan reshuffled the Cabinet, and the second reshuffled Kan Cabinet was inaugurated.

At a Cabinet meeting in the morning, the letters of resignation by the Cabinet members were collected, and the list of the new Cabinet members was announced in the afternoon by Mr. Yukio Edano, the newly appointed Chief Cabinet Secretary. Later, the attestation ceremony of the new Cabinet members was held at the Imperial Palace, which marked the official inauguration of the Second Reshuffled Kan Cabinet.

The Prime Minister then returned to the Prime Minister's Office and held a press conference, following which he attended the first Cabinet meeting, during which the Basic Policies of the Second Reshuffled Kan Cabinet were decided, and he then attended a commemorative photograph session.
