Prime Minister Naoto Kan arrived in New York, the United States, to attend the General Assembly of the United Nations, on September 22 (local time).

After his arrival, Prime Minister Kan delivered a speech at the United Nations Summit on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which aim to halve the proportion of people in poverty by 2015, among other goals, at the United Nations Headquarters.

Later, Prime Minister Kan held talks with Mr. Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
