First Day of the G8 and G20 Summits
On Friday, June 25 (local time), Prime Minister Naoto Kan attended the G8 Muskoka Summit held in Deerhurst, Canada.
Prior to the Summit, Prime Minister Kan held talks separately with Mr. Stephen Joseph Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, and Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. After the talks, Prime Minister Kan attended the G8 welcome ceremony, which marked the opening of the G8 Muskoka Summit. After the welcome ceremony, Prime Minister Kan attended the G8 working lunch with the leaders participating in the Summit, the outreach session with African countries, and then the expanded outreach session including three Latin American countries, and held discussions. In the evening, Prime Minister Kan met with participants of the Youth Summit and attended the G8 working dinner.
