Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary

JAPANESE

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY EDANO: Thank you for waiting.

To begin with, I have an announcement to make regarding two personnel appointments.

Effective today Masanori Aritomi, Director of the Research Laboratory for Nuclear Reactors at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Masaki Saito, Professor in the Research Laboratory for Nuclear Reactors at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, have been appointed as Special Advisors to the Cabinet, in order to provide information and advice to the prime minister regarding the government’s response to the ongoing situation at the nuclear power station in Fukushima. They received their formal letters of appointment from the prime minster earlier today. Professor Aritomi and Professor Saito possess outstanding knowledge and expertise in the field of nuclear reactor engineering, and will advise the government on safety measures in nuclear power stations.

That is all from me for now.
