Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama attended the Ceremony of Reverence at Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery, held in the presence of His Imperial Highness Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.

Among the remains of the war dead collected in countries such as the Philippines, Bismarck Archipelago, and the Solomon Islands by government-dispatched groups tasked with collecting the remains of the war dead and others, 3,937 remains, which cannot be returned to their families, were entombed at the Cemetery on this occasion.

Participants in the ceremony included Prime Minister Hatoyama, Cabinet members, ambassadors to Japan, representatives from related organizations, and bereaved family members, all of whom paid their respects to the war dead.
