Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama held a meeting of the Headquarters against Foot-and-Mouth Disease at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister said, "I would like to solicit the whole government's efforts in tacking this problem. I believe we must create a situation where the farmers and the people of Miyazaki Prefecture can live with a sense of reassurance at the earliest possible date. As the Chair of the Headquarters, I ask all of you to further ensure that thorough measures are taken against the disease through concerted efforts of the related ministries." He then presented the basic response policy.
