Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama attended the Open Forum on the "New Public Commons" held at the Cabinet Office.

At the start of the forum, the Prime Minister delivered a speech on the theme of "What is the New Public Commons," in which he said, "I would like to state that the "new public commons" is not at all a monopoly of the NPOs. Activities such as crime prevention in themselves comprise "new public commons," and I have also seen private companies truly practicing "new public commons." I feel that the government is now expected to consider its involvement in these initiatives taken by companies and individuals. I think this is the time to reconsider and fundamentally change the roles of citizens, companies, and governments."

Prime Minister Hatoyama also attended the panel discussion and debated on the prospect of the new public commons.
