The Prime Minister Receives a Courtesy Call from the Representatives of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Who Received the Fuji Award
Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama received a courtesy call from representatives of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who received the Fuji Award, at the Prime Minister's Office.
The Fuji Award is an honorary badge awarded to the venture scouts of the Scout Association of Japan (boys and girls of high-school age or under the age of 20) who worked the hardest to realize their own goals, and worked for the benefit of others within the scout movement.
Prime Minister Hatoyama gave words of encouragement to the 47 scout representatives who received the Fuji Badge, saying, "I am looking forward to seeing all of you being active around the world with a pride in your hearts for being acknowledged by the world, having won the most prestigious Fuji Award granted for the boy and girl scout movement, the most excellent youth program, which will stay with you for a lifetime."
Later, Mr. Takuya Iwasawa of the Toshima 14th Division of Tokyo, who was representing the awardees, expressed his determination for the future, saying, "For us, it was never an easy path to win the Fuji Award. We are standing here now as Fuji Scouts thanks to the support extended by our colleagues and families. Although we may have a more difficult path ahead of us, we are determined to aim even higher, having passed one major test that has led us to the Fuji Award. We promise to be a milestone for those who follow us by taking the lead in taking on challenges."
