The Prime Minister Attends the Event to Present the Unit Flag to an International Rescue Unit to be Dispatched to Haiti and the Event for the Return of the Unit Dispatched in the Indian Ocean
Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama attended the event for the return of the Maritime Replenishment Support Unit dispatched in the Indian Ocean, which was held at Harumi Pier in Tokyo.
A handover ceremony of the unit flag took place in response to the return of the dispatched unit that had completed its replenishment support activities in the Indian Ocean. During the event, a report of return was made, and the Prime Minister's Special Award was conferred by Prime Minister Hatoyama.
After this event, the Prime Minister attended an event at the Ministry of Defense to present the unit flag to an international rescue unit that is to be dispatched to Haiti.
The Cabinet made its decision the previous day to dispatch, in accordance with the Law Concerning Cooperation for United Nations Peace-keeping Operations and Other Operations, a Self-Defense Forces unit to Haiti to provide emergency reconstruction assistance to help the country recover from the great damage from the large-scale earthquake. During the event, the unit flag was presented, and Prime Minister Hatoyama delivered an address.
