Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama held a meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Basic Policies at the Prime Minister's Office.

Those who attended the meeting included Mr. Naoto Kan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance; Mr. Hirofumi Hirano, Chief Cabinet Secretary; Ms. Mizuho Fukushima, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food Safety, Social Affairs, and Gender Equality; and Mr. Shizuka Kamei, Minister of State for Financial Services and Minister of State for Postal Reform. The ministers discussed Japan's new response to the earthquake disaster in Haiti and a policy speech at the 174th session of the Diet.
