Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama attended a kick-off event for the Challenge 25 Campaign, a national movement for the prevention of global warming, at the Prime Minister's Office.

With Prime Minister Hatoyama serving as the leader and Minister of Environment Sakihito Ozawa as the sub-leader, the campaign aims together with the people to forcefully advance efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In his address, Prime Minister Hatoyama said, "Immediately after becoming Prime Minister, I announced at the United Nations Japan's target of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2020 if compared to the 1990 level, and called for active efforts by all nations. I am convinced that Japan can do it and that Japan is capable of setting an example for the world. What is most important alongside the efforts in the industrial sector is for each individual to be determined to change their mindset."
