Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama held talks with H.E. Mr. Alan Garcia, President of the Republic of Peru, at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, President Garcia expressed appreciation for Japan's assistance and expectation for Japanese companies' active entry into the Peruvian market. In response, Prime Minister Hatoyama stated that it was important for Japan to promote cooperation with Peru, a country rich in resources, and that he was delighted to see the entry into force of an investment agreement on this occasion.

Regarding Peru's decision to adopt the Japanese format for terrestrial digital TV broadcasting, President Garcia indicated his hope for cooperation with Japan in the area of science and technology to be further promoted. Prime Minister Hatoyama stated that Peru's adoption of the Japanese format had promoted the adoption of the Japanese format by many South American countries, thanking President Garcia's contribution in this regard.

After the meeting, Prime Minister Hatoyama and President Garcia attended a signing ceremony for Diplomatic Notes Concerning the Entry into Force of the Japan-Peru Investment Agreement, and Notes for General Project Grant Aid for the Republic of Peru.
