First Day of the Visit to Thailand; and Japan-ASEAN Summit Meeting, etc.
During the meetings, Prime Minister Hatoyama called for support for the East Asian Community, a concept that the Prime Minister advocates.
Prior to the East Asia Summit (EAS) scheduled for the following day, October 25, Prime Minister Hatoyama attended a banquet with the leaders of the 10 ASEAN member countries, China, the ROK, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
In between the meetings, Prime Minister Hatoyama held separate talks with H.E. Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, and Hon. Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia.
During the Japan-Thailand Summit Meeting, Prime Minister Hatoyama expressed his sincere wish for the early recovery of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who has been admitted to hospital. In response, Prime Minister Abhisit stated that he appreciated Prime Minister Hatoyama's sympathy for His Majesty the King and that he cordially welcomed Prime Minister Hatoyama's visit to Thailand. The leaders discussed matters such as Japan-Thailand bilateral relations, cooperation in the East Asian region, and climate change.
During the Japan-India Summit Meeting, the leaders discussed bilateral relations between Japan and India, as well as global issues such as climate change, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, and United Nations Security Council reform.
During the Japan-Malaysia Summit Meeting, the leaders discussed matters such as bilateral economic relations between the two countries. Prime Minister Najib expressed his strong wish for Prime Minister Hatoyama's visit to Malaysia.
