Council for the Realization of a Reassuring Society

Prime Minister Taro Aso held the 2nd meeting of the Council for the Realization of a Reassuring Society at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, the Council members, based on their previous discussions and also on the intensive discussions on easing public anxiety at the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy (CEFP), presented a broad range of opinions, and thereby advanced discussions, on the direction in which Japan as a nation should take in order to realize a reassuring society where the people can live their lives with peace of mind, and on modalities of basic policy.

In the opening address, Prime Minister Aso asked the Council members for their opinions, saying, "During the previous meeting, we heard various opinions on anxieties that exist in the Japanese society. The anxieties that the people develop in their daily lives can broadly be divided into three categories. The first category involves anxieties most immediately impacting family members, such as ones concerning employment, child raising, and education. The second one concerns systems, including the social security system. The fragility of systems, which has been pointed out here and there, has now become a problem. The third category relates to social domains, such as anxieties concerning food safety, public security, and disparities. These are the categories of anxieties. In any event, I ask that the Council members present their frank opinions on the prescriptions for these anxieties."
