Prime Minister Taro Aso held a meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.

In this first session of intensive discussions on easing public anxiety under the theme of social security, the Council members first shared the understanding on the actual situation of disparity and then discussed the direction in which deliberations will take place going forward.

At the start of the meeting, Prime Minister Aso said, "Japan had been said to be a reassuring and equal society. It has been pointed out in recent years, however, that such society had started to come apart. Using objective data, I want the Council to identify and analyze issues, based on which we will take appropriate steps. I ask that the Council hold frank discussions."
