On December 4, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office.

With regard to the passing of Dr. Tetsu Nakamura in Afghanistan, the Prime Minister said,

“Dr. Nakamura has made significant contributions in Afghanistan, both in the area of medical care as a doctor, as well as through such activities as irrigation projects. As we are well aware, while risking his life working in extremely dangerous and harsh areas, he made various contributions to Afghanistan, and the people there are very grateful to him.

It is very shocking that he has passed away in such a fashion, and I would like to express my heartfelt condolences.”
