On December 21, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence.

With respect to the summit telephone talk with the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, the Prime Minister said,

“In response to the request from President Trump, we just held a Japan-U.S. Summit Meeting. Regarding the latest development in the issue of North Korea, we analyzed the situation, and closely aligned our future responses. Japan fully supports the U.S.-North Korea process.

Furthermore, I resolutely condemn these dangerous provocations of North Korea, and strongly request that North Korea take action towards the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through peaceful dialogue.

I will visit China from Monday and I will hold a summit meeting with President Xi, followed by a Japan-China-Republic of Korea Summit Meeting. Through these meetings, I would like to confirm that we will reinforce our mutual efforts and collaboration towards the peace and stability of the region through our thorough discussions.”
