Before dawn of June 19, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office.
 
Regarding the earthquake centered offshore of Yamagata Prefecture, the Prime Minister said,
 
“We are exerting every effort to identify damages and implement emergency disaster response measures, including rescue and disaster relief, putting people’s lives first and foremost. Moving forward, we intend to take all possible measures to provide accurate information for the people, while staying alert to the fullest in the case that further damages could occur. We will be staying vigilant, going forward. I myself will stay in the Official Residence on standby for now.”
