On December 26, 2017, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press occasion at the Prime Minister's Office.

In regard to the five years since the inauguration of the Abe Cabinet, the Prime Minister said,

“During the last five years, I have pressed forward day by day with a constant sense of urgency. In the face of various obstacles, over these five years I have received the strong support of the people in five elections – three House of Representatives elections and two House of Councillors elections, and that has given me the strength to overcome these obstacles. I would like to once again express my gratitude for the understanding and support of the people.

Today we had another beautiful sunny morning that renewed my determination. I recall that five years ago we also had a clear and cold morning that renewed my determination. Today I have the same state of mind that I had on that morning five years ago. Going forward, I will continue to exert my best efforts for the people of Japan.”
