Message of condolence from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe following the damage caused by the earthquake that occurred off the Pacific Coast of south-west Mexico
September 11, 2017
Following the damage resulting from the earthquake that occurred off the Pacific Coast of south-west Mexico on September 8 (at approximately 1:49 p.m., Japan time; approximately 11:49 p.m. on September 7, local time), Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, delivered the following message of condolence to H.E. Mr. Enrique Peña Nieto, President of the United Mexican States.
“Your excellency President Peña Nieto,
I am deeply grieved and saddened at the news of the earthquake that struck off the Pacific Coast of south-west Mexico recently, affecting a large number of your country’s citizens and resulting in the loss of lives.
On behalf of the Government and the people of Japan, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved and express my heartfelt sympathies to all of the affected people.
Japan and Mexico are both earthquake-prone countries, and Japan received swift support from your country at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Whenever either of us has suffered earthquake damage in the past, we have supported each other in this way. The Government of Japan stands ready to provide any assistance to Mexico.
I sincerely pray that the victims relief efforts proceed smoothly and that peace and security is restored to the citizens of your country as quickly as possible.
Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan”
