Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press occasion at the Prime Minister's Official Residence on September 3, 2017.

In regard to the Japan-U.S. Summit Telephone Talk with President Donald Trump, the Prime Minister said,

“In response to the current situation in North Korea, I have held three consecutive summit telephone talks over this past week with President Donald Trump. During today’s summit telephone talk, we once again analyzed the latest conditions, and discussed our responses.

As North Korea continues to unilaterally escalate the situation with its acts of provocation, we must also work with the Republic of Korea and promote close Japan-U.S.-ROK collaboration.  President Trump and I fully shared the view that we must continue to work closely together to increase pressure on North Korea and ensure that North Korea changes its policies, through close Japan-U.S.-ROK collaboration, and in cooperation with the international community.

We are receiving a variety of information. While calmly and thoroughly analyzing the situation, we will collaborate and consult with relevant countries regarding responses, and exert every effort to protect the lives and assets of the Japanese people.”
