On September 15, 2017, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press occasion at the Prime Minister's Office.

In regard to North Korea's missile launch, the Prime Minister said,

“It is totally unacceptable that North Korea has once again conducted such an outrageous act, in complete disregard of the strong and unanimous will of the international community to find a peaceful resolution, as demonstrated in the recent United Nations resolution. We ask the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency meeting.

The international community must work in solidarity and unity to send a clear message in response to this dangerous act of provocation by North Korea that threatens global peace. The solidarity of the international community is needed now, more than ever.

This has once again made it clear that we must fully implement the recent sanctions resolution. We have to make North Korea understand that if it continues along this path, it will not have a bright future.

As always, the Government has stayed fully abreast of the developments related to the missile since immediately after its launch, and has made all necessary preparations.

Under the robust Japan-U.S. Alliance we will continue to maintain elevated vigilance and do everything we can to protect the safety and security of the people.”
