Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended a demonstration of the medical applications of 8K Super Hi-Vision technology at the Prime Minister’s Office.

After receiving an explanation from the attendees, the Prime Minister said,

“At the Ise-Shima Summit, all the G7 leaders watched images on 8K Super Hi-Vision TV. That was virtually the first time that I myself had seen it, and my main impression was that the scenes were very attractive. However, now that I have seen this demonstration today, I realize that this technology radically advances endoscopic surgery, thereby reducing the burden on the patient and increasing the success rate of operations. It improves the field of vision, providing a much more detailed view than can be seen with the naked eye and enabling more precise operations to be carried out.

The Headquarters for Healthcare and Medical Strategy Promotion, which I chair, intends to thoroughly provide strategic support for this kind of advanced medical technology. This type of technology is appealing not only because of its contributions to medical care for the people of Japan, but also because of the potential to market it internationally. I believe this is truly the result of the combined strengths of the medical care and engineering fields, and Japan’s technological craftsmanship. I would like to work with you all to advance this type of technology that is unique to Japan to an even higher level. Thank you.”
