On May 3 (local time), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Brussels in the Kingdom of Belgium.
The Prime Minister first visited the site of a terrorist attack that occurred at Maalbeek Metro Station in Brussels, where he offered flowers.
Next, Prime Minister Abe had an audience with His Majesty King Philippe, King of the Belgians . Following that, Prime Minister Abe held talks and a joint press announcement with H. E. Mr. Charles Michel, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium .
Afterwards, Prime Minister Abe held talks and a joint press announcement with H.E. Mr. Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission , from the European Union.
After offering flowers at Maalbeek Metro Station, the Prime Minister said in his address,
“I would like to once again offer my heartfelt condolences to all victims of terrorism. Japan stands with Belgium and Europe. I would like to express our sincere solidarity. There has been no end to the offering of flowers here. Seeing this made me feel the thoughts of hope for peace gathering at this spot of all world citizens who wish for a peaceful era when none fall victim to terrorism. Japan will join hands with the countries of the world to fight against terrorism, toward the eradication of terrorism. I hope to demonstrate the solidarity of G7 countries at the G7 Ise-Shima Summit.”
