Meeting to Follow up on Proposals of the Education Rebuilding Implementation Council
April 5, 2016
[Provisional Translation]
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the second meeting to follow up on proposals of the Education Rebuilding Implementation Council, at the Prime Minister’s Office.
At the meeting, a discussion was held on the state of progress of the proposals to date.
In his opening address, the Prime Minister said,
“The Abe Cabinet has received the proposals of the Education Rebuilding Implementation Council, and has already carried out the implementation of many reforms.
However, as I stated at the first follow-up meeting, the most important thing is to produce results in line with the intent of the proposals at actual educational institutions, and to achieve the benefit of the reforms while constantly verifying that they are not being carried out in form only.
In that sense, this follow-up meeting is extremely important.
In today’s meeting, I would like to hear your views, focusing on reforms in elementary, junior high, and high schools such as instructor credentials, the organization of schools and their connections with the local community, as well as on reforms of universities such as making governance more international, and creating innovation.
‘Education rebuilding’ is a pillar of the revitalization of Japan, and is also one foundation of the realization of ‘a society in which all citizens are dynamically engaged.’
I would like all of the expert members to continue to frankly share your views. Thank you very much.”
