On May 23, following on from the previous day, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the 7th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting, which was held in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture.
First, Prime Minister Abe participated in a leaders’ commemorative photograph session. Following this, he attended the summit sessions and delivered the keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
After the completion of the summit sessions, the Prime Minister and H.E. Mr. Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr., President of the Republic of Palau, held a joint press conference.
Following this, the Prime Minister held summit meetings with the Hon. Mr. Toke Tufukia Talagi, Premier of Niue; the Hon. Mr. Henry Puna, Prime Minister of the Cook Islands; the Hon. Enele Sosene Sopoaga, Prime Minister of Tuvalu; the Hon. Mr. Joe Natuman, Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu; and the Hon. Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga. Prime Minister Abe also received courtesy calls from the Hon. Ms. Julie Bishop, MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia and the Hon. Mr. Douglas Ete, Deputy Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands.
