Saturday, October 19, 2013
[Provisional Translation]
I am saddened to hear of the passing of Ambassador Thomas Foley.
Ambassador Foley has contributed profoundly to enhance relations between Japan and the United States, expand parliamentary exchanges, and to enhance the friendship and goodwill among the peoples of our two countries, consistently throughout his service as the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the United States Ambassador to Japan.
On behalf of the people and the Government of Japan, I renew my sincere respects for the achievements of Ambassador Foley, and pray that he may rest in peace.
Prime Minister of Japan
Shinzo Abe
