Message of Condolence by Prime Minister Abe on the passing of H.E. Howard Baker, former U.S. Ambassador to Japan
Sunday, June 29, 2014
[Provisional Translation]
I am saddened to hear of the passing of Ambassador Howard Baker.
Ambassador Baker has contributed profoundly to enhance the Japan-US Alliance and the friendship and goodwill among the peoples of our two countries, as the United States Ambassador to Japan during the milestone period of the Japan-US 150th Anniversary. His contribution continued after his official appointment in Japan, after which he remained a genuine friend of our country.
On behalf of the people and the Government of Japan, I renew my sincere respects for the achievements of Ambassador Baker, and pray that he may rest in peace.
Prime Minister of Japan
Shinzo Abe
