On March 27 from 6:10 p.m. for about 15 minutes, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a courtesy call from H.R.H. Prince Khaled bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Minister of Defence, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who is visiting Japan upon the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Prime Minister's Office. The outline of the meeting is as follows:
- At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Abe said that he hopes H.R.H. Prince Khaled's visit to Japan will serve as an opportunity to strengthen the relations with Saudi Arabia in the security field, including the collaboration between the defense authorities of the two countries. In response, H.R.H. Prince Khaled said that he wants to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the field.
- Further, Prime Minister Abe referred to the deep friendship between the late Prime Minister Nobusuke Kishi, Mr. Abe's grandfather, and H.M. Faisa, H.M. King of Saudi Arabia and asked H.R.H. Khaled to convey his best wishes to the Custodian of Two holy Mosques, King Abdullah. H.R.H. Prince Khaled replied that his father, the late Crown Prince Sultan, visited Japan for the first time in 1960, and that ever since then he has held the people of Japan in high regard.
- In addition, the two ministers exchanged views on regional issues in the Middle East.
