Meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy
Tuesday, November 18, 2014
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 19th meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.
At the meeting, there was a discussion on Japan’s current economic conditions.
Based on the discussions, the Prime Minister said,
“In regard to Japan’s recent economy, although positive trends such as the increase in employment and the strong growth in nominal employee compensation are continuing, in the first preliminary estimate of GDP for July to September announced yesterday, individual consumption is dragging.
Today we held discussions on Japan’s current economic conditions and suitable counter-measures, taking into account the “Review Meeting on Future Trends in Economic and Fiscal Policy” report by experts and advisors.
In order for a positive cycle of the economy to become more firmly established, and for the effects of Abenomics on regional communities to become more widely realized, we must focus on paying careful attention to SMEs and residents of regional communities who are affected by the energy prices that remain high, and on furthering regional revitalization through creating jobs, and proceed with preparations for all necessary measures at an early date.
I am grateful to all of the Council members for actively taking part in the review meetings.”
