Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with editors of women’s magazines in regard to the promotion of women’s activities, at the Prime Minister’s Office.

At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on women’s lifestyles.

In his opening address, the Prime Minister made the following remarks,

“I would like to thank all of you for taking the time out of your very busy schedules to attend this meeting of editors of women’s magazines at the Prime Minister’s Office today.

The Abe Cabinet currently aims to achieve “a society in which all women shine,” and intends to utilize many kinds of policies towards realizing this end. We aim to create an environment in which it is easy for women to work, and a society where women can advance towards fulfilling their own individual dreams and goals, while bringing up children. Also, we intend to create a society where there is a fully supportive environment for women who have worked hard on the home front and have finished child-rearing and would now like to work again or find some new purpose in life.

I am very interested in hearing the views of all of you in attendance today, esteemed editors of women’s magazines, in regard to the views of women like yourselves who are working in cutting-edge fields. Sometimes it is difficult to understand the world outside that of Nagatacho and Kasumigaseki, so I would sincerely like to ask you to share your frank opinions.

On the 10th of this month, we put together a policy package that should be implemented at an early date, by about spring next year. At the end of last week, I submitted to the Diet the new acts to promote women’s activities and involvement, and I would like to thoroughly formulate and implement our policy movement to advance such initiatives. Thank you for your support.”
