Joint Meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy and the Industrial Competitiveness Council
Tuesday, June 24, 2014
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the sixth joint meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy and the Industrial Competitiveness Council at the Prime Minister's Office.
During the meeting, discussion was held on the Basic Policies for the Economic and Fiscal Management and Reform 2014, and the revised Japan Revitalization Strategy.
Based on the discussion in the meeting, the Prime Minister said,
“Today I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you for the compilation of the Basic Policies for the Economic and Fiscal Management and Reform 2014, and the revised Japan Revitalization Strategy.
Over the past year and a half, the Japanese economy has been transforming under the three arrows of Abenomics. To ensure that these changes lead to sustainable growth and development, we must engage in a variety of efforts based on these two plans. These efforts include strengthening Japan’s earning power through growth-oriented corporate tax reform and enhanced corporate governance; further increased opportunities for women’s labor participation and expanding the acceptance of foreign labor; bold reforms in agriculture, employment, medical services, and other areas; and initiatives to ensure that the fruits of Abenomics are diffused throughout the country and lead to the development of regional economies; among others.
Implementation and speed are of the utmost importance. Following this meeting we will make Cabinet decisions for both plans, and immediately begin implementing them as the policy direction of the Abe administration.
I would like to once again express my deep gratitude to all the Diet members involved for the great deal of time and effort you have devoted to this process. At the same time, I would also like to ask for your continued cooperation in reinforcing and enhancing Abenomics.
