Industrial Competitiveness Council
Monday, June 16, 2014
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 17th meeting of the Industrial Competitiveness Council at the Prime Minister's Office.
During the meeting, discussion took place on the revision of the Japan Revitalization Strategy, after which the Prime Minister said,
“I believe that Japan is currently in a great, historic period of transition. The policies and systems that we have grown familiar with since the end of World War II, and the way of thinking behind them, are no longer applicable to the changes of the times. This is also the case for agriculture, the medical field, our ways of working, and the state of the country’s regions.
As a result of your efforts over this past year, within today’s draft we have been able to incorporate policies that break down barriers related to issues thought, until now, to be too taboo to even challenge; and barriers that we have previously attempted to challenge many times, but could not overcome.
A positive cycle of the economy is starting to be created, thanks to Abenomics. However, in order to connect this to a path to stable growth, we must resolve to execute this policy draft, and then we must carry through with it.
Based on this draft, we will have extensive discussions with the ruling parties, and at the end of this month, the Government will issue a Cabinet decision on the draft revision of the Growth Strategy. I ask for the further cooperation of the members of this Council.”
