Prime Minister Shinzo Abe conversed with Dr. Koichi Wakata, an astronaut assigned to the Japanese Experiment Module "Kibo" of the International Space Station (ISS), at the Prime Minister's Office.
Astronaut Koichi Wakata arrived at the ISS aboard the Russian Soyuz TMA-11M space ship that launched last November, and began his mission as a flight engineer. For the second part of Expedition 39, he is serving as the first Japanese Commander of the ISS.
Together with Mr. Akihiko Hoshide, an astronaut who served as moderator; along with Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Hakubun Shimomura; Minister of State Ichita Yamamoto; and the Hon. Ms. Caroline Kennedy, Ambassador to Japan of the United States; Prime Minister Abe conversed with Astronaut Akihiko Hoshide and others for approximately 15 minutes.
