Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended a meeting of the Council for Supporting Women to Shine at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, "women who shine" made remarks regarding measures necessary for women to shine, and leaders from various sectors made declarations regarding future initiatives.

The Prime Minister said in his address,
"I believe we must create 'a society in which all women shine' and to do so we must listen to the views of all you 'women who shine' who are here today. 'A society in which all women shine' is one in which working women will be able to further demonstrate their capabilities; women will be able to have fulfilling careers while raising their children; women who are now engaged in domestic work will be able to harness their experience and participate more actively in the workforce if they so wish; and women will be able to play increasingly larger roles in fields such as science, engineering, and agriculture.
When the Government carries out measures, they inevitably become rather one-dimensional, but today, we were also able to listen to your suggestions from your respective positions on how daycare centers for supporting childrearing can be made more useful.
In addition, many women are currently engaged in agriculture. I believe there are many women who embarked on new endeavors and were able to enjoy success by utilizing a consumer's perspective.
Leaders of various sectors made declarations regarding initiatives for supporting women to shine, and this was very encouraging. It is essential for us to create a network headed by people such as yourselves, who are leaders of various sectors and communities, to support the promotion of women's active participation in the workforce.
If we broadly communicate information regarding the various initiatives and if we strengthen the partnerships among leaders, then I think we can expand the circle of support for women to shine.
The Government will work to ensure that women will make up at least a 30% share of leadership positions by 2020."
