Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the General Assembly of Japan's National Council for Export Promotion of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Products and Processed Foods held at a hotel in Tokyo.

The Prime Minister said in his address,

"I am sincerely pleased that this fiscal year's General Assembly of Japan's National Council for Export Promotion of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Products and Processed Foods is being held on such a magnificent scale.
The Abe Cabinet is determined to make a host of efforts to create strong agriculture, forestry, and fishery industries, and beautiful and vibrant rural areas. Among them, the promotion of exports is one of the most important policies for getting Japan's agriculture, forestry, and fishery industries out of the current sense of stagnation.
I have been taking the opportunities of my overseas visits to urge leaders to remove regulations that are hindering exports to their countries, and introduce leaders to Japan's safe and tasty agricultural, forestry, and fishery products. In Russia, together with sushi and soba chefs, I introduced authentic Japanese food and Japanese sake. In Kuwait and Qatar in the Middle East, I introduced premium fruits, such as melon, pear, and Japanese persimmon. These products have truly been amazingly popular wherever I go. People in the industry should promote exports with confidence.
A short while ago, there was an award ceremony for people hard at work promoting Japanese food across the world. The steady efforts you have made daily on foreign soil have created the current Japanese food boom and provided an opportunity to expand the export of Japanese ingredients. I would like to express my profound respect for the extensive efforts you have made to date.
My Cabinet will continue to work strategically to promote the export of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in order to bring back vitality to the agricultural, forestry, and fishery industries. Let us definitely achieve the one trillion yen export target.
I would like to conclude my remarks by sincerely wishing for the further development of the businesses of everyone in attendance. Let us all work hard together. Thank you very much."
