The General Assembly of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Japan Bid Committee Parliamentarians' League
Tuesday, October 15, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the General Assembly of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Japan Bid Committee Parliamentarians' League, at the Members' Office Building of the House of Councillors.
The Prime Minister said in his address,
"I believe that we achieved our success with the bid because there were those who came before us, who overcame their failures. We bear the responsibility of making the Games a success. We shouldn't think that 'there are still seven years left,' but that 'there are only seven years left.' I hope to begin preparations with this mindset.
As the national government, I want to continue to offer full cooperation. I think that it is important that this not just be about Tokyo, but that we believe 'the Tokyo Olympics will energize the entirety of Japan.' Not only Tokyo, I want all prefectures to have the mindset of a stakeholder, and for the Games to uplift the revitalization of the regions. I want to be involved with this feeling in mind. That is how I feel.
I want to close my address by again expressing my gratitude to the Parliamentarian's League, which worked hard for the bid."
