Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 11th meeting of the Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, discussion took place on the future of connections among high schools and universities, and university entrance examinations.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address,

"Since June the Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding has deepened discussions on connections among high schools and universities, including university entrance examinations, while also looking at the situation in other nations. In this regard, I would like to once again express my gratitude to all the members of the Council who, throughout the course of July and August, tirelessly inspected universities and other institutions.
Moving forward, I would like the Council to promote further discussion on the future of connections among high schools and universities. The system of university exams often becomes the main focus of discussions, but university exams are primarily a bridge between high school and university education and I therefore believe that it is imperative that we approach discussions from the perspective of improving the education system as a whole, inclusive of university entrance exams. To this end, in the interest of holding debate on the future format of university entrance exams, I would like the Council to deepen fundamental debate on the ideal form that high school and university education should take. I believe that this is extremely important.
In light of this, today the Council will discuss the ideal form that high school and university education should take. I hope that everyone will engage in frank and open discussion on the major direction of the education system going forward. Thank you."
