Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received the Report on the National Council on Social Security System Reform at the Prime Minister's Office.

After he received the report from Chairman Seike, the Prime Minister said,

"I realize the compilation of the report required a great deal of work and I would like to express my appreciation to Chairman Seike and all the other members of the National Council for holding intensive meetings and deliberations, and indicating the future policy direction in this way.
The environment surrounding social security in Japan is changing dramatically. As we face the aging population and declining birthrate, changes in situations surrounding employment, as well as the great changes in the situations families and regions are placed in, what must be done and what kind of reforms must be thoroughly realized in order to steadily protect, connect, and pass down the world's preeminent universal healthcare and pension systems that Japan has built? I believe that this report you have compiled has addressed these issues.
As we must promote the necessary reforms through bills for next year, I would like to make thorough preparations, while determining a roadmap. Furthermore, as Chairman Seike mentioned earlier, I would like to decide on the outline for a bill that includes the format and schedule of the reform by August 21. To this end, we are currently making adjustments with the ruling parties. I would like to ask for your continued guidance in these efforts.
