Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the 17th meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, there were discussions on the "'budget overview' and FY2013 economic trends," "mid-term fiscal plan," "FY2014 guidelines for budget requests," and "future themes and initiatives of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy."

Based on the discussions, the Prime Minister said,

"The 'FY2014 budget overview' has been compiled, which will determine the direction for establishing the guidelines for budget requests and formulating the mid-term fiscal plan. I would like to ask that this 'budget overview' be taken into account in formulating the budget for the next fiscal year.
Also, Minister Amari has presented an outline of the mid-term fiscal plan. Based on this outline, I would like to ask the Council to compile the mid-term fiscal plan by as early as next week. To ensure that the plan can be presented at the G20 in early September, I ask the Council to proceed steadily with the compilation work under the leadership of Minister Amari.
With regard to the Council's way forward for the latter half of this year, the Council will operate according to the future initiatives policy, which Minister Amari has compiled.
We will work with increased speed to give shape to the policies to ensure that everyone throughout Japan fully experiences the economic recovery firsthand, as we promised the Japanese people in the recent House of Councillors election. I would appreciate your cooperation in this effort."
