Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a courtesy call from Mr. Toshio Koizumi, Director of the League of Residents of Chishima and Habomai Islands, at the Prime Minister's Office.

The Prime Minister said in his address,

"With the former islanders aging, I am determined to resolve the issue of the Four Northern Islands quickly. I want to make progress while the health of the former islanders is still good.
I am scheduling to visit Russia before the mid-year and meet President Putin. On that occasion, I would like to securely discuss the issue of the Four Northern Islands."
