Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the second Advisory Council on the Establishment of a National Security Council at the Prime Minister's Office.

At this meeting, there was an explanation from the government side and opinions were exchanged.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address,

"As for the National Security Council, which serves as the control tower for foreign and security policies of Japan, I would like to create an occasion for daily and flexible discussion from a big-picture and strategic perspective, under the initiative of the Prime Minister's Office, given the ever-increasing challenges in the security environment of Japan.
With regard to the establishment of such National Security Council, I believe it is necessary in the first place to streamline the roles that it should serve as the 'control tower for foreign and security policies.'
From such perspective, I would like to collect the abundant knowledge of the members on how the National Security Council should be."
